Belgian deathcore outfit LOCKED YEARS make their entrance with “Deathwish,” the band’s debut single and first statement of intent. Fronted by vocalist Clem, the emerging act introduces a sound built around the crushing weight and uncompromising aggression of deathcore, using their first release to establish the musical identity they want to carry into the next stage of their journey. Rather than rushing into a full release, LOCKED YEARS are taking the time to shape their foundation and build something designed to translate with equal force in the live environment.
“Deathwish” serves as the opening chapter of a project that is already looking beyond its debut. The band are currently working on their first EP, with the goal of putting together a strong and ready-to-use set that will allow them to hit the stage with a fully developed live show. For an emerging band, that preparation is an important part of the process, giving LOCKED YEARS the opportunity to establish their identity while continuing to write and develop new material.
As Clem explains, the decision to begin with a first single was deliberate. “We wanted to establish the band's identity with a first single so we know what genre we're going to propose.” That approach makes “Deathwish” more than simply an introduction; it is the first clear indication of the direction LOCKED YEARS intend to pursue as they continue building their catalogue and refining their sound.
The next major step is already on the horizon. LOCKED YEARS plan to begin playing live shows next year, bringing the intensity of “Deathwish” and their developing EP material to the stage for the first time. With their debut now out in the world and the foundations of their first EP taking shape, LOCKED YEARS have made their opening move — and “Deathwish” is only the beginning.
