New Jersey death metal destroyers OCEAN OF ILLUSIONS are turning up the heat with “Ash Hoarder,” the latest single from their forthcoming EP Nexus, arriving October 30, 2026 through Bleeding Art Collective. Built around crushing riffs, massive groove, dynamic shifts, and punishing breakdowns, the track showcases the band’s increasingly expansive approach to extreme music. “Ash Hoarder” is the fourth track on the six-song EP and arrives alongside an official visualizer, giving another glimpse into a release that brings together the band’s death metal foundation with djentcore, melodic death metal, and New York death metal influences.
At the heart of “Ash Hoarder” is the duality of fire, exploring its ability to provide warmth while also possessing the power to cause irreversible destruction. The band specifically highlights guitarist Josh’s contribution to the track, with its riffs developed around the idea of creating something that could translate physically to a live audience. That groove-driven focus sits naturally within OCEAN OF ILLUSIONS’ established style, where layered dynamics and breakdown-heavy arrangements give their music both weight and movement.
Nexus follows the band’s 2022 debut album Unrecognizable and the singles “Nexus” and “Doomed,” released in 2025. The upcoming EP features six tracks: “Nexus,” “Doomed,” “Imminent Incursion,” “Ash Hoarder,” “A Breath To Conquer The World,” and “Illuminating In Pain.” The band have also shared stages with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, INGESTED, THE LAST TEN SECONDS OF LIFE, and BODYSNATCHER, while Dave Ricco of FACE YOURSELF handled the EP’s mixing and mastering.
With “Ash Hoarder,” OCEAN OF ILLUSIONS continue to sharpen the identity behind Nexus, combining devastating heaviness with groove, melody, and experimentation. The new EP lands October 30, bringing six tracks of New Jersey extremity to the surface.
