Hailing from Évora, Portugal, ABOVE THE OCEAN are bringing a heavier side of their modern metal sound into focus with “Worthless,” their latest single and accompanying official video. Formed in 2022, the five-piece have built their identity around the contrast between aggressive and melodic songwriting, drawing from metalcore, groove metal and nu-metal while incorporating electronic elements. The band consists of José Saruga on vocals, André Vicente on guitars and backing vocals, Pedro Santos on guitars, André Bagorro on bass, and João Carvalho on drums.
“Worthless” was previously described by the band as one of the heavier and more metalcore-oriented songs in their developing catalog, marking a different side of their sound compared with the more electronic direction explored on “Thank You.” The track runs for 5:32 and appears as the opening song on Worthless, a four-track release issued on September 18, 2026. The release also features “Thank You,” “Therapy,” and “Love Song (For the Broken),” bringing together material from the band's early singles and their current era.
The new “Worthless” official video arrives as ABOVE THE OCEAN continue building momentum toward their debut album. The song has already become a regular part of the band's live repertoire, appearing in setlists at shows across Portugal, including performances in Évora, Lisbon, Portalegre and Vila Nova de Famalicão. The band's development has also included appearances at Capote Fest and Comendatio Music Fest, where they represented the emerging modern metal scene from their hometown of Évora.
From their first show in 2023 to their expanding run of releases and live appearances, ABOVE THE OCEAN are steadily establishing their place within Portugal's modern heavy-music landscape. With “Worthless” now officially released and accompanied by its new video, the Évora quintet continue pushing toward their debut album with a sound built on weight, melody, intensity and cathartic emotion.
