UK progressive rock and metal trio Black Orchid Empire return with their powerful new album LORE, released May 8, 2026, marking another ambitious step forward for a band known for combining crushing heaviness with soaring melodic beauty. Across the record, BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE sharpen the formula that has earned them a devoted following—technical, groove-driven musicianship fused with massive, emotionally charged choruses that hit with equal parts force and atmosphere.
Over the years, the band have built a formidable reputation on stage, touring extensively throughout the UK and Europe alongside artists such as Skunk Anansie, Hed PE, InMe, Cellar Darling, and Black Map, while also appearing at festivals including Download Festival, Tech Fest, and Planet Rockstock. Following acclaimed releases through Long Branch Records and Season of Mist, the band’s recent signing to Year Of The Rat Records has further elevated their momentum, drawing support from outlets including BBC Radio 1, Spotify, Apple Music, Knotfest, Metal Hammer, PROG, and Kerrang.
Leading the charge into LORE is the explosive opening track “Skinwalker,” a song guitarist and vocalist Paul Visser describes as one of the album’s fastest and most direct moments. Built around massive riffs and contrasted by a highly melodic second verse, the track captures the core identity of BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE—savage yet deeply atmospheric. Inspired by the mythology surrounding Skinwalker Ranch in Utah, the song is written from the perspective of one of the mysterious shape-shifting entities reportedly seen there, adding a dark conceptual layer to its aggressive energy.
With LORE, BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE deliver what may be their most focused and complete statement to date—an album that embraces complexity without sacrificing emotional impact. As the band prepare to take the record across the UK on a full release tour, they continue proving why they remain one of the most compelling and dynamic names in modern heavy music.
