The Barnum Meserve are back with a beautifully brilliant new offering called ‘Gaslight’. The
long-awaited return see’s the Nottingham UK 3-piece share their first taste of new music
since their 2017 album ‘When All Is Lost’. ‘Gaslight’ is the natural progression for a band
that cleverly takes inspiration from movie scores and soundtracks.
With their new single we see The Barnum Meserve in a whole new light. A new era see’s the
band combined old-world instruments with new technologies such as synths, drum machines
and arpeggiators allowing them to experiment with more expansive and alluring
soundscapes.

“It’s about manipulation making someone feel like they're going insane but also making
people question themselves whether it’s them or yourself who is the problem. I’ve been in
relationships in the past where I’ve been in that situation and it’s a nasty place to be. I
thought it was a great idea to write about as it can be a dark subject matter, to be
manipulated by those around you who you love and ultimately trust.” Explains the bands
frontman Leon Wiley.
‘Gaslight’ quickly became a chance for the band to experiment with the approach of how
they had previously worked on music. The change of approach goes hand it hand with the
accompanying music video which looks into isolation in a gritty and abstract way.
Giving their take on the music video the band Film Director Fraser Wests mentions:
“Gaslight is a video looking into isolation and the mind games that play out in our everyday
mundane lives. We go on a journey into darkness, fuelled by fear and an alto ego that
cannot be shaken. The video is a cinematic psychological horror.”
