Long Islanders Crash the Calm entered the scene in December 2014 after its founding members had decided to come together with the goals of making meaningful, cathartic music and trying their best to share that art with everyone they could. After releasing their debut single, a demo version of the song “Holes”, the band signed to indie label Downport Records.

Crash the Calm recorded their 2017 debut album, 'How’ve You Been?,' at VuDu Studios (Hail the Sun, Gates, Glassjaw) with Nick Starrantino, Dom Nastasi & Mike Watts. Their follow-up 2018 EP 'Split' was recorded by Anthony Lopardo and Ray Marte at Westfall Studios (Moon Tooth). The band played numerous shows locally and across the East Coast in support of these releases, including having opened up for and shared the stage with bands like Pianos Become the Teeth, Save Face, Capstan, Elder Brother, Belmont, Bay Faction, Head North, Heart Attack Man, Kayak Jones, The Republic of Wolves, bloom., Gatherers, Stories Untold, Sparrows, and even with an appearance opening a game at Citi Field.

After the 'Split' EP, three of the five members of the band had to leave for varying personal reasons. The remaining founding members Brian Dowling (Singer/Guitar) and Patrick Smith (Guitar) had almost lost hope in their ability to continue the band. It was at this point that the idea of a concept album grew. The writing for the band’s second LP, 'A Town Named Nowhere,' is centered on the inhabitants of the fictional town of “Nowhere,” which exists during the Dust Bowl era of the United States. Much of the lyrical content is from the varying perspectives of the townspeople, who each must deal with their own inner strife juxtaposed with the looming chaos and disaster brought on by rampant dust storms and economic ruin. It’s a record about finding your way through life-altering experiences and putting back the pieces when they seem shattered beyond repair from the start. The concept behind 'Nowhere' came to Brian Dowling and Patrick Smith during this time of upheaval of the band where it felt like their only true creative outlet was about to be lost, and the only way out was to rebuild from nothing.

The band entered the studio in the Fall of 2019 with new members Dan LeBrun (Guitar), Johnny Pots (Drums) and Dave Van Nostrand (Bass) to record 'A Town Named Nowhere' with Anthony Lopardo and Ray Marte of Westfall Studios, where the band recorded their 'Split' EP. The addition of new members added a new creative element to the band, while still retaining the essential ambiance and moodiness of their prior releases which made the band who they are.

The first single of the record, “Devils”, is set for release on October 30th, accompanied by a dark lyric video that highlights the experiences of the Dust Bowl era and sets the stage for 'Nowhere.' While there may have been a temporary setback, Crash the Calm is determined to regrow stronger than before, with plans for a number of music videos and digital performances to support 'Nowhere' and to hit the road again as soon as health conditions permit.
