We visited Kino Siska in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia to see the band Helmet. They played here two years back, this time around it was in the small hall!
Seeing them for the first time back in 2003 at the big festival and then two years back at this same venue but in the bigger hall, I was wondering how the band will do in the club type situation.
The opener was Chicago duo, Local H, formed by Scott Lucas on vocals and guitar, and Ryan Harding as drummer and back vocalist. Despite being just two guys they delivered more than a solid hard rock performance. The venue was nicely packed.
In the middle of the show, the band was joined on stage by Dan Beeman and Dave Case, respectively guitarist and bass player of none other than Helmet!
They sure did a good warm up for Helmet and the crowd was pleased!
Page Hamilton, vocalist and guitarist aka alfa&omega of the band is the only remaining original band member! He pointed out during the show that he got his haircut done right across the street of the venue.
With the new line-up, the band certainly gained a new fresh energy that could be seen on stage.
As on the previous occasion, there was not a lot of younger people on the show. There were mostly people over 30 years of age, people who grew up listening to their music. It's a shame that the band could not gather new kids to listen to their music and they sure are missing a lot!
Helmet were in some ways pioneers, bringing new grooves to the heavy music at the end of 90's and what then evolved into nu-metal.
The venue was almost sold out and the club experience was amazing!
The crowed went on their feet when they hit us with classics like In The Meantime, Unsung and Wilma's Rainbow!
All together we can say Helmet still smashes live and young kids should check this band out!
