Swedish band Normandie announce their new EP, SIDE EFFECTS PT.2, with the release of its first single, “Mr. America”, and an accompanying official music video.
Written, produced and mixed entirely by the band, the EP continues Normandie’s independent journey without a record label. Arriving on February 26, 2027, it follows SIDE EFFECTS PT.1, released earlier this year, which saw the band double both their Spotify followers and monthly listeners. Breakout single “Cyanide” has now surpassed four million streams on Spotify.
On “Mr. America”, Normandie explore the contrast between the America they grew up admiring and the country they see from the outside today. For vocalist Philip Strand, the song begins with a question: “Is the American dream dead?”
“Growing up in Sweden, the USA always felt like the centre of the world,” says Strand. “So many of our influences and childhood memories came from American music, TV, movies and superstars. It all made us feel like that was the place to live. Now we’re asking ourselves whether that dream is fading, and whether the cool big brother in the West is becoming a stage for conflict and polarisation. This song isn’t meant as an attack on the American people. It’s social commentary on how the view from outside has changed, on what once felt like a feel-good movie about the land of the free.”
The accompanying music video brings the song’s narrative to life, with Easter eggs woven in for the band’s most dedicated fans.
Building on PT.1’s heavy guitars, cinematic soundscapes, emotionally driven melodies and raw aggression, SIDE EFFECTS PT.2 finds the band approaching their next chapter with renewed confidence and a stronger connection to their audience.
“Side Effects PT.1 was us testing the waters of independence,” Strand explains. “We wanted to see how much of an impact we could make without label backing, just us and our fans.
Going into PT.2, we had that confirmation and confidence. Our fans are waiting for us to push ourselves to the limits of our ability, and we trust them to come with us. We’ve never felt more in tune with our sound and where we fit in the current scene. It feels like the planets are aligning, and we’re bringing our A-game.”
SIDE EFFECTS PT.2 is released on February 26, 2027. Physical and merchandise pre-orders open today, October 23, with four vinyl variants, CDs, merchandise and multiple bundles. The digital EP features five tracks, while vinyl and CD editions include the additional bonus track “Stalemate Acoustic”.
