UK heavy rock outfit HRTLSS have released their new EP The Devil On My Shoulder, accompanied by a music video for its emotionally charged title track. Hailing from Cambridgeshire, the four-piece have spent the past year developing a genre-blurring sound that brings together heavy rock and metalcore with electronic textures, R&B influences and soaring melodic passages. The four-track EP arrived October 2, 2026 through Papercut Recordings, with “The Devil On My Shoulder” standing at its centre.
The title track dives into themes of self-deception, destructive behaviour and the difficult process of accepting personal responsibility. Rather than placing blame elsewhere, the song confronts the tendency to attribute negative actions to outside forces, while exploring the loneliness that can accompany that mindset. HRTLSS channel those ideas through a combination of emotional melodies, weighty instrumentation and a vocal performance that moves between vulnerability and aggression.
“The Devil On My Shoulder” forms part of a four-song narrative exploring toxic relationships, destructive desire, self-deception and accountability. The EP follows a run of singles that established HRTLSS' increasingly expansive approach, with the band using contrasting sounds and shifting dynamics to build a record that feels cohesive while allowing each song to tell its own story.
With The Devil On My Shoulder now available, HRTLSS bring the chapter to its full conclusion. “The Devil On My Shoulder” stands as a particularly direct expression of the record's themes, turning an internal struggle into something tangible through heavy riffs, atmospheric textures and emotionally exposed songwriting. The new EP is out now via Papercut Recordings.
