SLIPKNOT have returned with “Arsenal,” their first brand-new song in more than three years and the opening shot of another era for the Iowa heavyweights. Released as a surprise on September 9, the single is the band’s first studio material featuring drummer Eloy Casagrande, who joined SLIPKNOT in 2024, and their first release following the recent departure of longtime turntablist Sid Wilson. “Arsenal” also marks the beginning of the band’s new label chapter, arriving through their own (sic)est Records imprint.
Musically, “Arsenal” throws numerous sides of SLIPKNOT into one concentrated attack. Casagrande’s explosive drumming provides a ferocious backbone while massive riffs, percussion, electronics, and Corey Taylor’s unmistakable vocal delivery create a track that rarely sits still. Taylor moves between rhythmic, almost hip-hop-influenced phrasing, punk-like urgency, and his harsher roar, while the song shifts through moments of frantic energy before dropping into a particularly heavy closing stretch. Taylor himself described the song as a “pummelling experience,” noting how its hyperactive moments and final drop capture what SLIPKNOT are about.
“Arsenal” arrives while attention is already turning toward SLIPKNOT’s next full-length chapter. The band’s last studio album, The End, So Far, landed in 2022, followed by the standalone track “Bone Church” in 2023. Guitarist Jim Root has recently indicated that recording work is underway for the band’s eighth studio album, although it has not yet been confirmed whether “Arsenal” will appear on that record. The new single is accompanied by a music video directed by M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan and starring Jackson White.
More than three decades into their existence, SLIPKNOT clearly have no intention of entering their next era quietly. “Arsenal” sounds chaotic, confrontational, and deliberately restless, while Casagrande’s studio debut adds fresh firepower behind the kit. Whatever the masked nine have planned next remains largely under wraps, but one thing is now certain: SLIPKNOT have reloaded, and “Arsenal” is the first shot.
