SCATTERBRAIN have released their latest single “ADDICTED TO THE HABIT,” accompanied by a new music video. The project, led by former I Prevail vocalist Brian Burkheiser, continues its run of original material with a track that turns inward, confronting cycles of distraction, self-doubt and obsessive behaviour. Released on September 25 through Scatterbrain Records, the 3:24 single was co-written by Burkheiser and Erik Ron, who also produced the track, with Tyler Smyth handling mixing and mastering.
“ADDICTED TO THE HABIT” explores the search for temporary relief through distractions and repetitive behaviours, particularly when they become a way of avoiding more difficult emotions. The song reflects the tension between knowing that a habit is destructive and continuing to return to it, giving the track a personal and introspective edge. That emotional honesty remains central to SCATTERBRAIN, a project built around Burkheiser’s experiences and a willingness to move beyond the boundaries of his previous work.
The new single arrives after a steady run of releases from SCATTERBRAIN throughout 2026. “Phases” arrived in February, followed by “Fast Lane” in March and “Bitter” in July, while the project initially emerged in late 2025 with a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.” With SCATTERBRAIN, Burkheiser has been exploring a broader musical palette incorporating rock, hip-hop and pop influences while placing his own experiences at the centre of the songwriting.
“ADDICTED TO THE HABIT” pushes SCATTERBRAIN deeper into that personal territory, transforming cycles of doubt and distraction into a direct and emotionally exposed new single. It is another step in Burkheiser’s continuing reinvention, with the project steadily establishing its own identity one release at a time.
