OCEAN OF ILLUSIONS Explore Fire’s Destructive Duality With “Ash Hoarder”

New Jersey extreme metal outfit OCEAN OF ILLUSIONS return with “Ash Hoarder,” the final single from their upcoming six-track EP Nexus, arriving October 30 through Bleeding Art Collective. Drawing from death metal, deathcore, djent and melodic death metal, the band have spent their latest run of material expanding their sound through crushing weight, groove-driven riffs, atmospheric passages and breakdown-heavy arrangements. “Ash Hoarder” now offers the last glimpse into Nexus before the complete EP arrives later this month.

At the heart of “Ash Hoarder” lies the duality of fire — an element capable of providing warmth and comfort while also possessing the power to cause irreparable destruction. That contrast gives the track its thematic foundation, while the riff-focused writing brings a strong rhythmic character to the song. OCEAN OF ILLUSIONS lean into movement and groove without sacrificing the crushing intensity that has become central to their sound, making “Ash Hoarder” another forceful addition to their evolving catalogue.

Nexus follows the band’s 2022 debut album Unrecognizable and continues the experimentation established through the previously released singles “Nexus” and “Doomed.” The new EP was conceived as a collaborative songwriting experiment, with individual members bringing their own musical approaches into the writing process before merging those ideas with the band’s existing material. The result is a record designed to showcase the different perspectives within OCEAN OF ILLUSIONS while pushing their instrumental sound into new territory.

The six-track Nexus features “Nexus,” “Doomed,” “Imminent Incursion,” “Ash Hoarder,” “A Breath To Conquer The World” and “Illuminating In Pain.” Mixed and mastered by Dave Ricco of FACE YOURSELF, the EP arrives digitally on October 30, with “Ash Hoarder” serving as its final advance warning.
