Zürich-based ethereal modern metal outfit ILLUMISHADE unveil “The River,” their latest single and official visualizer, released on September 25, 2026. Led by the captivating voice of vocalist and pianist Fabienne Erni, the track marks another step into the band’s newly independent era, following the singles “Paralyzed” and “Heatwave.” “The River” arrives as a fully self-released chapter from a band that has continually refined its identity around cinematic atmosphere, majestic melodies and modern heaviness.
Musically, “The River” brings together Erni’s expressive vocals with Jonas Wolf’s guitars, Mirjam Skal’s orchestral work and synths, Yannick Urbanczik’s bass and Marc Friedrich’s drums. Additional violin from Sumina Studer adds another organic layer to the arrangement, while the production was handled by Jonas Wolf and Claudio Rodriguez. The track was mixed by Rodriguez and mastered by Stefan Brown at Abbey Road Studios.
“The River” follows ILLUMISHADE’s 2024 sophomore album Another Side Of You, which took the Swiss outfit across Europe and the United States. Founded in Zürich in 2019 by Erni and Wolf, the band originally developed its sound through cinematic grandeur, orchestral textures and virtuosic musicianship before moving toward a more focused and modern approach. In 2026, ILLUMISHADE have chosen to take complete creative independence, using their latest material to establish the foundation for their next chapter.
