COSMIC GENOCIDE Descend Into Darkness With “The Unholy”

Indonesian blackened deathcore outfit COSMIC GENOCIDE return with “The Unholy,” a new track that continues the band’s exploration of dark, oppressive and extreme metal. Hailing from Bali and Lombok, the five-piece have been developing a sound that brings together deathcore heaviness, black-metal atmosphere and symphonic darkness. Their 2025 debut EP Constant Catastrophe established that direction through five tracks centered around themes of suffering, destruction, death and the darker side of modern existence, with the band describing their approach as expressive metal with a strong symphonic black-metal presence.

“The Unholy” builds naturally upon that foundation, placing COSMIC GENOCIDE’s extreme-metal identity firmly between crushing deathcore and the bleak atmosphere of black metal. The band have previously incorporated darker melodic textures, symphonic elements and an increasingly heavy approach into their material, drawing influence from the modern deathcore scene while maintaining a distinctly ominous character. Their earlier work has demonstrated an interest in creating music that feels both brutally heavy and atmospheric, rather than relying solely on breakdown-driven impact.

The track arrives as another step forward for a band whose catalogue has developed considerably since their early material. COSMIC GENOCIDE first emerged with “Deathcurse” in 2021 before expanding their sound through “Crown Of Perdition” and eventually the Constant Catastrophe EP, which was released independently in January 2025. That record explored a continuous cycle of disasters and the suffering of humanity within modern civilization, establishing the bleak thematic world that continues to surround the band's music.

With “The Unholy,” COSMIC GENOCIDE strengthen the darker side of their identity, combining the brutality of deathcore with the cold atmosphere and sinister character of black metal. It is another uncompromising chapter from the Indonesian outfit, continuing their descent into increasingly bleak territory while proving there is still plenty of darkness left for COSMIC GENOCIDE to explore.
