Japanese alternative metal outfit COLDRAIN have released their long-awaited eighth full-length album, OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE, marking the band’s first full album since 2022’s Nonnegative. Released on September 25, 2026 via Century Media Records, the twelve-track record expands upon the foundation established by last year’s OPTIMIZE EP, bringing together previously released material and seven new tracks into a larger statement about the band’s current creative direction.
The album moves between COLDRAIN’s characteristic heaviness, melodic songwriting and alternative-rock instincts, with vocalist Masato David Hayakawa leading a record that constantly shifts between aggression, atmosphere and powerful hooks. Tracks including “EX-HUMANITY,” “REST OF ME,” “G.I.A.I.G,” “SING” and “PICTURE PERFECT HELL” expand the album beyond the material first introduced through the OPTIMIZE EP, while the band’s established sound remains at the core of the record.
OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE also features two notable collaborations. THE USED vocalist Bert McCracken appears on “POISON,” bringing his distinctive voice into COLDRAIN’s world, while CROSSFAITH and AFTERVOID vocalist Kenta Koie joins the band on the closing track “SAVIOR.” The complete tracklist also includes “OPTIMIZE,” “CHASING SHADOWS,” “DIGITOLL,” “INCOMPLETE,” “FREE FALL” and “EX-HUMANITY.”
The album arrives after a year of steady momentum for COLDRAIN, with the band previously releasing the OPTIMIZE EP in October 2025 and unveiling a series of singles leading into the new record. The physical editions also include LIVE AT BLARE FEST. 2026, documenting fifteen performances from the band’s appearances at the Japanese festival. With OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE, COLDRAIN now bring together the past, present and next phase of their sound in one expansive twelve-track release.
