Ohio-based five-piece ASAVA — Liam Brocious (vocals), Zach Rusher (guitar), Greg Cochran (bass), and Spencer Cindia (drums) — occupy a compelling space amidst modern alternative metal, progressive rock, post-hardcore, and theatrical ambience. They aren't simply chasing the current wave — they're expanding it with sprawling arrangements, emotionally charged vocals, and a willingness to let songs breathe before detonating into massive climaxes. Their sound has drawn comparisons from listeners to Deftones, Sleep Token, Bad Omens, Karnivool, and Fair to Midland, while still maintaining an identity that's distinctly their own.
Of their debut release, vocalist Liam Brocious shares, "Mahjong set us free. It has freed us from so much of our past and so much of ourselves. It's the kind of record that we’ve aspired to make our whole lives. I'm very proud of how much it showcases our range to the utmost, progressing in scenes and sections that flow like a film. And before you know it, it's over and leaves you with yourself in the best way possible. I hope it can help those the way it's helped us. From below the bottom, from ash, we built back up with a mission and project of 'Mantras' and 'Mahjong.' And with this record we’ve finally completed the journey. Now it's time to share it with the world and sing it together."
