Liverpool metal outfit CUT SHORT continue their rapid ascent with the release of their new EP “Modern Affliction,” available from today, July 3, 2026. Arriving ahead of UK tours alongside Iridium and The Five Hundred, the record captures the band's signature blend of hardcore, metalcore, and progressive metal while expanding on the emotionally charged themes that have quickly earned them recognition across the UK's heavy music scene.
Over the past few years, CUT SHORT have built impressive momentum through explosive live performances with acts including Wargasm UK, Dream State, and Heart Of A Coward. Their rise has been further fueled by support from BBC Radio 1, Metal Hammer, Kerrang!, and Rock Sound, as well as editorial playlisting and coverage across major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, TIDAL, and Pandora. Their music draws inspiration from mental health struggles, burnout, and the realities of modern decay, while their visual identity reflects the stark contrasts of Liverpool's urban landscape.
A standout moment on the EP is “Reverie,” which vocalist Chris Jones describes as “a song about infatuation with something you deeply wanted, but could never truly have. It explores the feelings behind obsession, what happens after that obsession fades, and how those emotions continue to linger in the mind.” That emotional honesty runs throughout “Modern Affliction,” balancing crushing heaviness with introspective songwriting and dynamic musicianship.
With “Modern Affliction,” CUT SHORT further establish themselves as one of the UK's most exciting emerging metal acts. Refusing to be confined by genre boundaries, the Liverpool quintet combine chaotic energy, technical precision, and genuine emotional depth into a release that is as thought-provoking as it is punishing, setting the stage for an even bigger year on the road.
