Oxford, Connecticut melodic death metal outfit ACCURSED have unveiled “Sever The Horizon,” a powerful new single accompanied by an official music video. Combining soaring melodies, aggressive riff work, and emotional depth, the band deliver a release that goes beyond musical intensity to address an issue that affects countless lives around the world.
“Sever The Horizon” was inspired by the story of Richard “Sky King” Russell, whose tragic circumstances sparked widespread conversations about mental health, isolation, and the struggles many people face behind closed doors. Through a blend of melodic aggression and heartfelt songwriting, ACCURSED transform those themes into a moving and thought-provoking piece that resonates far beyond the metal community.
The release arrives during Men's Mental Health Month, adding further significance to the song's message. Speaking about the track, the band shared: “This song is about Richard (Sky King) Russell and it is Men's Mental Health Month. We feel it's pretty important.” In support of that mission, ACCURSED are donating profits from their Sever The Horizon t-shirts to the mental health organization HeartSupport, helping turn awareness into meaningful action.
With “Sever The Horizon,” ACCURSED demonstrate that heavy music can be both crushing and compassionate. By combining the melodic power of modern death metal with an important message of awareness and support, the band have created a release that is impactful not only for its musicianship but also for the conversation it encourages.
