North Carolina/Florida-based downtempo deathcore outfit SUNDERED SEAMS emerge with crushing intent on their new EP, Altar Of Need. Across three punishing tracks, the band delivers an oppressive descent into darkness, combining earth-shaking heaviness, bleak atmosphere, and suffocating pacing into a release that feels absolutely relentless. Rather than chasing constant speed, SUNDERED SEAMS weaponize tension and weight, creating an experience that drags listeners deeper into the abyss with every passing moment.
Opening track “Wolves at the Gate” wastes no time establishing the EP’s devastating tone. Beginning with catastrophic downtempo heaviness, the song crawls forward with crushing riffs and overwhelming low-end pressure that immediately sets the mood for what follows. The band’s ability to let riffs breathe while still sounding utterly destructive gives the track a looming, almost cinematic sense of dread.
“Itch for Me” pushes that atmosphere even further, beginning at an even slower pace with suffocating tones that feel claustrophobic and suffused with tension. As the track unfolds, SUNDERED SEAMS gradually accelerate the tempo, injecting bursts of violent energy before collapsing back into the same crushing darkness that opened the song. The dynamic movement keeps the track unpredictable while maintaining the oppressive emotional weight that defines the EP.
Closing track “Distance or Violence” begins with an alarming soundscape before plunging headfirst into an even deeper downtempo void. The song continuously escalates the feeling of unease, layering bleak textures over pulverizing breakdowns and crushing rhythmic shifts. With Altar Of Need, SUNDERED SEAMS prove that brutality does not always need speed to leave a lasting impact — sometimes the slowest descent is the most devastating.
