Following their appearance at this year's Bloodstock Open Air, UK melodic metallers PHOENIX LAKE have shared their planetary new single, titled "Bells Of Variel", featuring Tristan Hill of AZAZEL. Mixed & mastered by Pete Rutcho (Parkway Drive, Falling In Reverse), the single also comes alongside a lyric video (created by Andy Pilkington), and the announcement of their long-awaited debut LP, Seraphina: The Fall From Eden, which arrives February 27th, 2026.
Discussing the single and its context among their conceptual upcoming debut studio album, the band states: ""Bells of Variel" is track eight on the album, and it captures the darkest chapter in the story. Variel—the Angel of Death—appears, not as a guide, but as a punishment. He takes Michael, Seraphina’s lover, in a final act of heartbreak-fueled vengeance. It’s a moment defined by grief, rage, and the fallout of unrequited love."
The band continues, drawing more from the compositional aspects of the track, "The song is written from both Seraphina and Variel’s perspectives, drawing out the emotional tension between despair and fury. The bells that toll throughout act as a chilling omen—only heard by angels and beings beyond the mortal realm, signaling what’s to come. Musically, it’s one of the heaviest tracks on the album. Driven guitars set the pace, with tight drums and deep bass anchoring the rhythm. Synths add a cinematic edge that makes the whole track feel bigger and more intense."
Lastly, discussing the vocal arrangements and their context within the track's overarching story, they state "The clean vocals channel Seraphina’s pain and desperation, while the bridge—featuring harsh vocals from Tristan Hill—brings Variel’s wrath into full focus. That shift in perspective is stark, giving the song a layered intensity as it moves between loss and vengeance. It’s a track about heartbreak, revenge, and how pain can change you."
The band also announced their hotly anticipated debut LP, Seraphina: The Fall From Eden, due out on 27th February, 2026 via self-release. Self-described as "a concept record that chronicles the journey of a fallen angel as she navigates the complexities of human existence" by the band, they continue:
"We didn’t originally intend to create a concept album; our only goal was to make music that captured the tangled mess of emotions that reveal the raw beauty of being human," they say. "But after releasing "Fractured Wings" — our first single following the EP Beyond the Flames — we were inspired to reimagine the lyrics in a more literal sense. From that idea, Seraphina’s story emerged"
They conclude: "The album follows her descent and transformation. After falling from Eden, she is thrust into an unfamiliar world and begins searching for meaning in the chaos. Over time, she uncovers love, summons inner strength, and ultimately finds redemption."
Featuring a riotous chorus, an anthemic and planetary rock instrumental, and a brutally heavy bridge, "Bells Of Variel" is a deeply conceptual and urgent slice of modern alternative metal that not only perfectly sets the scene for Phoenix Lake's high-concept debut LP in early 2026, but places the band firmly in the upper echelons of the UK metal scene.
