Czech metal festival Brutal Assault has unveiled the first wave of artists set to perform on August 5–8, 2026, within the historic walls of Josefov Fortress. Among more than 30 confirmed names, three stand tall at the top of the bill: British gothic rock legends THE SISTERS OF MERCY, American metalcore titans THE GHOST INSIDE, and progressive metal visionaries ANIMALS AS LEADERS. For more than four decades, THE SISTERS OF MERCY have defined gothic rock and post-punk with their unmistakable dark atmospheres, commanding stage presence, and cult-like following. Their appearance at Brutal Assault is set to be one of the most unique experiences in the festival’s history, expanding beyond the traditional boundaries of heavy music. Sharing the stage, THE GHOST INSIDE will bring their explosive breakdowns, emotionally charged anthems, and resilient message of perseverance, delivering one of the festival’s most anticipated modern metalcore sets. Meanwhile, ANIMALS AS LEADERS promise a breathtaking display of instrumental mastery, blending progressive metal with elements of jazz, funk, and electronic textures to create a sonic journey like no other.
The lineup also celebrates comebacks and cult favorites: Norway’s black metal veterans Old Man’s Child return to the stage after more than 20 years, while Swiss thrash legends Coroner prepare to unleash their first studio album in over three decades. Fans of extreme sounds can look forward to death metal heavyweights Deicide, technical powerhouses Cryptopsy and Fallujah, Greek atmospheric masters Septicflesh, and slam icons Internal Bleeding and Sanguisugabogg. Black metal devotees will be treated to the ferocity of Marduk, the pioneering spirit of Triptykon, the atmospheric beauty of Alcest, and the boundary-pushing vision of Deafheaven. Thrash maniacs will get their fix with Municipal Waste, Death Angel, and the aforementioned Coroner. The festival’s experimental edge is equally represented by Crippling Alcoholism, Master Boot Record, and Wyatt E.
