Dean Lamb, guitarist of the Canadian technical death metal band Archspire, has addressed the recent backlash surrounding the band’s Kickstarter campaign launched to fund the recording of their upcoming album.
Some fans voiced concerns over the need for crowdfunding, questioning why an established band would seek financial support from their audience. Others criticized the campaign's goals and reward tiers, sparking debate across social media platforms.
In response, Lamb released a statement explaining the band’s decision. He clarified that the campaign was designed to give fans a direct way to support the creation of the new album while receiving exclusive content and merchandise in return. Lamb emphasized that the project was entirely optional and intended to enhance fan engagement—not to exploit it.
"We wanted to offer something special to the people who have supported us over the years," Lamb said. "This campaign is about creating a stronger connection with our community and giving them a chance to be part of the process."
The band continues to push forward with the album, thanking their supporters and remaining transparent about how the funds will be used. Despite the criticism, many fans have stood behind Archspire, seeing the campaign as a modern and interactive way to fund music in a challenging industry landscape.
