Today, Ben Quad has released “Ephemera” – the title track from their upcoming EP set for release on October 25 via Pure Noise Records.
Following their signing to Pure Noise in August, the band released two other explosive singles prior to this one including the cathartic track “You’ll Get Nothing and Like It” and the Deafheaven-inspired song “Your Face As An Effigy.” Their latest releases have received recognition from the likes of UPROXX, Brooklyn Vegan, and New Noise Magazine, among others.
Ben Quad shares their thoughts on the new single below:
“This song is the boiling point of the record. All beauty and happiness in the world seem to be tainted by capitalism (“Why does every flower wilt away?”). We, as victims of a negligent system, can only ask ourselves why we continue to accept perpetual cruelty. The final chorus of the record is a proclamation that we are nothing more than disposable in the eyes of our supposed protectors.”
With influences ranging from William Bonney to Pg. 99, and Underoath, Ephemera marks a bold, aggressive evolution from their 2022's I'm Scared That's All There Is. Lyrically, the EP tackles societal decay, environmental anger, and the need for action, providing sharp critiques of modern life and politics.
Produced by longtime collaborator CJ Cochran from Outline In Color, the band’s recording journey was punctuated by a tour allowing deeper introspection and creative refinement. The resulting tracks combine personal and political themes to devastating effect. While there are still hints of their old songs contained within Ephemera, the band definitely presents a new iteration of their sound with added chemistry and confidence.
