MEMORIST - so named due to frontman Jon’s inability to forget - are a six-piece alternative metal outfit that craft powerful emotional journeys for the listener, through Jon's personal experiences and perceived injustices. Layered in satisfying atmospheric textures and driving choruses, MEMORIST are experts in creating tension only to explode into a salvo of memorable melodies and lyrics to identify with. Influenced by the likes of Deftones, Northlane and Hans Zimmer, and having already garnered a wealth of recognition from fans, industry and contemporaries alike, MEMORIST have enjoyed the position of "Featured Artist of the Week" on Alex Baker's Fresh Blood show on Kerrang! Radio along with numerous plays of their five initial singles by the presenter. The band have featured on live streams from Tesseract's Dan Tompkins and Fit For a King's Ryan Kirby and have over 1.5 million combined YouTube views across their four music videos, and approximately 1.7 million streams on Spotify alone (with a monthly listenership of over 105,000 active fans). The band have recently also joined Echelon Talent for UK/EU bookings, joining As Everything Unfolds, Death Blooms and many more.
MEMORIST recently announced signing to upcoming UK based label Year Of The Rat Records and released their first singles ‘The Empiric’, ‘Second Sequence’ and ’ Slither'. The band have landed coverage with the likes of Rolling Stone, Metal Injection, Rock Sound, BBC, Kerrang TV, Kerrang Radio, Sirius XM Octane, Lambgoat, Dreambound, Heavy Mag, KnotFest, Idobi Radio, Total Rock Radio, Distortion Radio, Loudwire, and many other respected publications. Previous singles also landed a plethora of official playlisting with Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Pandora and more. The video for new single ‘Slither’ will be released on the 8th September as the band also announce that they will release their EP ‘ONI // KIJO’ on 12th November 2021.
Speaking about ‘Slither’ vocalist Jon says “Slither” is a story of struggle and the impacts of a toxic relationship on mental health. It explores my own experiences in an emotionally abusive relationship, whereby the abuser constantly gaslights and portrays you as the bad person, and beats you down only to then appear as your saviour when you are at your lowest. There is an air of confusion in where I sat in the relationship; my misinterpreting the abuse as love and affection, and a frustration with myself for an inability to find the strength to escape, to move on and to accept the abuser for what they were. There are references to my own struggle and whether or not I wanted to continue to live, or whether it would be easier to simply not be here at all.
“Slither” was an interesting songwriting process for us, being seeded as a synth idea by Jon (vocals) and styled as a heavily 80s influenced piece driven by synth basses and pads. It was another avenue of our sound that we wanted to explore when fusing organic and synthetic elements, rooted in Chris (guitar) love of The Weeknd and 070 Shake, and really polished when Crayg (electronics) got his hands on it in late 2020. This is quite a slow song for us, but has a pulsing feel unlike many of our other songs, and has become a personal favourite of a lot of the band. Lyrically, much of the content of this song was written before the instrumental was even finished, chronicling Jon’s (vocals) thoughts and feelings in the earlier months of 2020.
