SUM OF US - Release Debut Single "Forrest", Announce EP Release

It is a well-known fact that great music is made up of more than just the sum of it's parts - the X Factor that exists in the space between the notes and the members' individual talents and flair that bring out what makes music amazing. What if the sum of the parts that make up a band adds up to something huge AND there is just something that clicks to make something pretty special right from the outset?

That is SUM OF US. Made up of five band members plucked from the Brisbane music scene and featuring members of Osaka Punch, Kodiak Empire and Red In Tooth, Sum of Us is a project that just clicked and made sense from the day they all met and jammed. Their first show was supporting In Hearts Wake, Young Lions and Stepson and today they are unveiling the first sounds they have made together - a single entitled Forrest - that goes hand in hand with a playthrough video that shows off all the talents of the individuals in the band.

Intended as a introduction to the band, the single acts as the herald for an entire EP entitled "Sharp Turns in Dark Tunnels" coming very soon, as well as a plethora of new content, including a video documentary of the making of the EP that they did in conjunction with Luke McClean. The band worked with Chrispy Town (Osaka Punch) and Joel Myles on the production of the music.

Self-described as a "Delicious sound platter served with dynamic highs and lows, bastardly time signatures, crushing guitar tones and a twist of lemon," one sees all the flair of Kodiak Empire/the quirks of Osaka Punch, the sheer passion and dedication of Red In Tooth and the talent/ambition of all the members combined in their words and performances.

Bryce Carleton, vocalist for Sum of Us, says that "Forrest was written as a means to illustrate the feeling of sitting on the edge of reality; slipping off and attempting to claw your way back to the state of mind you were in prior to that moment. Along the way it touches on the subjects of staying present in mind, while realising personal change is the beauty of evolution and something to be embraced; not feared."

Forrest will be available from the band's Bandcamp account from this Friday.
