GRASPOP METAL MEETING 2013

GMM_banner PapaRoachPapa Roach, the band around figurehead and singer Jacoby Shaddix, started out as a nu metal band but the second record marked the beginning of a transition from nu metal to more rock-oriented material. In recent years, the band has been leaning towards heavier and faster stuff. Thanks to the changes in musical direction over the years, their catalogue includes a variety of styles such as metal, punk, hardcore and rap. With Shaddix’s recent vocal problems now a thing of the past, the Californian four-piece can focus on touring in support of their great new album ‘The Connection’.

Just like Korn and early Papa Roach, P.O.D. can also be labeled a nu metal outfit. Founded more than 20 years ago, this American band has released eight studio albums to date. Their latest offering, ‘Murdered Love’, was released just last year and was well received by fans and critics alike. This is definitely one to look out for.

Few bands are a genre unto themselves but The Dillinger Escape Plan is one of them. Some label their music hardcore, some call it metal and others claim they pioneered the mathcore genre. One thing’s for certain, though: their music is chaotic but very recognisable and unique, which has allowed them to carve out their own niche on the metal scene. The musicianship is top-notch and their live sets are extremely tight and energetic: these guys frequently leave the stage with more bruises than a boxer after a fight. That says it all…
