Columbia, South Carolina metallic hardcore outfit YOUR SPIRIT DIES have unveiled “Starless,” the opening track from their It Is Well… EP. Released on April 21, 2026, the track introduces a three-song release that continues the band's progression from their 2025 full-length My Gnawing Pains Will Never Rest. “Starless” combines the band's metallic hardcore foundation with a dark and melodic approach, continuing the identity YOUR SPIRIT DIES have developed since their recorded debut, The Process of Grief, in 2020.
“Starless” is built around a concept involving religious imagery and the aftermath of an Armageddon-like event. Vocalist Brandon Byars explained that the song forms the first part of a two-part story centered on those condemned to remain on Earth after the devastation, while questioning the idea of an all-loving God who would leave humanity in what the band describes as the “starless dark.” The track runs for 2:39 and serves as the first chapter of It Is Well…
The song was produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Randy LeBoeuf, whose credits include work with Kublai Khan TX, Boundaries, Dying Wish, Chamber, Orthodox and The Acacia Strain. The current YOUR SPIRIT DIES lineup features Brandon Byars on vocals, Tyler Dorman and Holden Hall on guitars, Killian Dawson on bass and Keenan MacNeal on drums. It Is Well… was released through MNRK Heavy on May 22, 2026.
With “Starless” establishing the atmosphere for It Is Well…, YOUR SPIRIT DIES continue to explore the meeting point between metallic aggression, hardcore intensity and dark melodic songwriting. The Columbia outfit's latest chapter builds upon a growing catalog that includes Our Saints Drown In Ash, My Gnawing Pains Will Never Rest and now It Is Well…, further cementing their presence within the modern American heavy-music landscape.
