Illinois-based heavy hitters STEEL CHAIR have put their own destructive spin on the massive 2012 electropop hit “I Love It” by Icona Pop, featuring Charli XCX. Joined by Alex Serio of Integument, the band transform the instantly recognizable anthem into a heavy, down-tuned metal track, replacing its glossy pop energy with crushing guitars and a much darker edge.
The official lyric video captures the collision between the original song’s infectious attitude and STEEL CHAIR’s heavier interpretation. Down-tuned riffs, punishing rhythms and forceful vocals reshape the familiar melody into something built for the pit, while Alex Serio’s guest appearance adds another layer of intensity to the performance.
Rather than simply reproducing the original, STEEL CHAIR completely rework “I Love It” around their own sound. The result is a striking contrast between one of the defining pop hits of the early 2010s and the Illinois outfit’s uncompromising approach to heavy music.
