Director Matt Zane, currently researching his unauthorized documentary on Wayne Static and Tera Wray, has uncovered three previously unheard Wayne Static demo recordings dating back to the Wisconsin Death Trip era of Static-X's early career.
The discovery was made while Zane was reviewing archival materials for the documentary. Although the recordings are believed to date back to approximately 1996, time has taken its toll on the demos.
"It was exciting to hear these tracks, but this demo had to be from around 1996, so it's in rough shape. I knew I had to bring in a proper producer to save it," said Zane.
To restore the recordings, Zane enlisted Mikael Johnston, founder of Mephisto Odyssey and a longtime collaborator of Wayne Static. Johnston previously worked with Wayne on the song "Crash" from the Batman Beyond soundtrack, created multiple remixes for Static-X, and produced an alternative version of the band's signature hit "Push It."
"Wayne and I always talked about doing more music together after 'Crash' and the remixes, but unfortunately our schedules never lined up. Now I can finally honor him by restoring these tracks and giving the fans something truly special," said Johnston.
The newly discovered demos represent a rare glimpse into one of the most influential periods of Wayne Static's career and are expected to offer fans an opportunity to hear previously unheard material from the formative Wisconsin Death Trip sessions.
