OBEYER Stretch Time And Tension To The Breaking Point On Pallor EP

Northampton, UK progressive metalcore outfit OBEYER deliver a dense and emotionally charged statement with Pallor, a four-track EP that leans heavily into atmosphere, tension, and slow-burning intensity. Clocking in at nearly 15 minutes, the release feels concise on paper, yet expansive in execution—each track unfolding with deliberate pacing and a clear sense of purpose.

Opening with “Trauma Host,” the EP establishes its tone immediately—layered guitars, tight rhythmic control, and a sense of unease that lingers beneath the surface. “A Single Shade” builds on that foundation, pushing further into melodic territory while maintaining a restrained aggression, allowing the band’s progressive tendencies to take shape through subtle shifts rather than overt technical showmanship.

“Become Cold” marks a turning point, leaning into darker textures and a more oppressive atmosphere. The weight here feels heavier not just sonically, but emotionally—OBEYER prioritize mood and cohesion over constant escalation, letting the tension breathe before tightening its grip again. This approach pays off in the closing track, “Nothing Exists Beyond Me,” a near 15-minute centerpiece that defines the EP’s identity.

The final track is where Pallor fully reveals its ambition. Expansive, patient, and immersive, it moves through evolving sections that blur the lines between post-metal, progressive metalcore, and atmospheric heaviness. Rather than relying on repetition, the band constructs a journey—shifting dynamics, building layers, and allowing moments of space to carry as much weight as the heavier passages.

With Pallor, OBEYER prove they are less interested in immediacy and more focused on crafting something lasting. It’s a release built on tension, atmosphere, and careful progression—demanding attention, but rewarding it with depth and cohesion.
