"Burnt Out is about the moment ambition turns into self-destruction." - Marlene Mendoza
Hailing from New York City, Marelne Mendoza, finds herself revolutionizing her refreshing take on the hard-rock genre. Pushing boundaries with an expressive anthematic sound. “I am reclaiming my voice and stepping fully into who I am as an artist.” Marlene Mendoza says regarding her music. “ It’s important that people understand that music comes from lived experiences.”
Mendoza has re-evaluated herself and her sound after an early full-band experience that has allowed her to come into her own. “I chose to rebuild rather than walk away. Going solo allowed me to take full creative ownership and challenge the idea that women don’t need permission or a band structure to be in heavy music.” Mendoza says about her solo era. “This is to prove that female artists can stand confidently and independently in this genre.”
Taking musical inspiration from artists such as Spiritbox, Bad Omens and Jinjer, Mendoza roots her music in real experiences from mental health and personal transformation. “I’m inspired by the contrast between vulnerability and aggression, calm and chaos.” Mendoza says about her creative writing process. “Writing allows me to process difficult moments and turn them into something empowering for both myself and the listener.”
Now Mendoza is entering into her new era after the release of her 2022 EP, Insanity, She’s gearing up to release a brand new EP, showcasing singles that hone in on exploration of self-awareness and inner conflict of recognizing patterns, confronting doubt and reclaiming control. Sonically, it blends heavy, aggressive elements with atmosphere and melody, reflecting a more confident, intentional era of her artistry.
Mendoza has an impressive resume, being a season 20 contestant for American Idol auditioning in front of Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. The audition aired on national tv. She has touring experience sharing the stage with Living Dead Girl, INFLUENCE and artists such as Ice Nine Kills, Like Moths to Flames, Bad Omens and Day Seeker while being a part of a full-band. She has no intention of slowing down as she gears up for the release of her new single “ Burnt Out,” set for release on March 27. "I want fans to know that their voice matters even if it doesn’t fit in a traditional mold. You’re allowed to take up space in a positive way, rebuild after setbacks, and define success on your own terms.”
