FOTO SHOW REPORT - DEFTONES, SKYHARBOR@GASOMETER, VIENNA 18TH APRIL 2017

As the festive days came to end, once more the road took us to the capital of Austria, Vienna. On the 18th of April, we went there to attend the Deftones concert. The show was held at the Gasometer hall, in the city centre. We traveled from Graz, still filled with positive impressions, from the previous day when we attended the Parkway Drive show.

We arrived to Vienna almost 5 hours before the show started, but there are lots of ways to pass the time at the Gasometer hall. The venue doors opened at 7.30 p.m. Like most of the fans, we eagerly waited for the show to start. We were full of expectations, since it was the first day of the Deftones European "Gore" tour. In addition to Austria the tour will continue in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium; England and Scotland from 18th of April, to 7th of May. They announced the tour in the support of the latest album "Gore". Over the summer, in June and July they will continue touring in the US.

The show was opened by Skyharbor, an Indian/American progressive band. They come from New Delhi and Ohio. The band is touring with Deftones until the 3th of May. We can hear that the band has been influenced by Deftones, ever since the beginning of the band in 2010. The emphasis is on ambient and harmony, with minimal harsh vocals and occasional screams. When they started to play the venue was already nicely packed. The show lasted for about 40 minutes. Their performance was lively and energetic, a good introduction for the headliners of the day.

Finally the time has come for the headliners of the day. Deftones began to play, and it was around 9.15 p.m. with quite a boom. All songs from the early albums. The opening song was "Korea", from the "White Pony" album. They haven't played that song live for a wile now, the last time was in 2011. They continued with the classics "Back To School", which they also last played in 2011 and Street Carp, first time live since 2009. During the first three songs the audience got bigger. After the great introduction Chino Moreno took his guitar and they continued with the songs from their sixth and seventh album. We heard Diamond Eyes, You've Seen The Butcher, Tempest and Swerve City. They played "KimDracula" from the "Saturday Night Wrist". Then it was time for more recent songs. They played a few songs from the newest album "Gore" and "Koi No Yokan": Gore, (L)MIRL, Acid Hologram, Doomer User and Rosemary. Later we heard the first song of the show from the debut album, "Minus Blindfold" and Teething: Soundtrack from "The Crow" movie. They played the songs again for the first time after ten years. Later they continued the show with more songs from the albums "White Pony" and "Around The Fur" which were enthusiastically excepted by the audience. Since the crowd mainly consisted of the audience who listened to Deftones since their beginnings, they wanted to hear more of the old classics as opposed to so manny the new songs. So the upcoming songs were really refreshing, they lifted the crowd back up again and the atmosphere was great. We heard: Digital Bath and Change In The House Of Flies. The crowd was most energetic during the songs: Be Quite And Drive, My Own Summer and Head Up. When the show was coming to its end we heard two more recent songs: Prayers/Triangles and Rocket Skates. Overall the show was a great start to this year's tour, we enjoyed the whole of concert and were pleased with the performances of
both bands.
