Irish-born rock ‘n’ roll artist Black Pope, is back with a bang as he release his debut album ‘White Smoke’ ‘White Smoke’ offers
a haunting collection of personal stories that unravel like a twisted horror anthology, serving
up both nostalgia and raw energy. Stream the full album below!
Critically acclaimed for his dark, cinematic edge, Black Pope has been labelled by Indie
Berlin as the “rock’n’roll demon child with a taste for all things dark and mysterious.” His
new album lives up to this reputation, pulsating with rebellious spirit and exploring themes of
survival, transformation, and defiance. The album’s sound is both eerily timeless and
provocatively fresh, drawing on gritty guitars and evocative lyrics to explore the tension
between life and death.
The album’s lead single, ‘She’s Alive’ is a ‘50s-inspired rock track that digs deep into
themes of love and resilience. Speaking about the song, Black Pope reveals “The title came
to me while I was sprawled on the couch, deeply in love, watching Frankenstein (1931). For
me, it’s a love song about resilience and the beauty of imperfections. In all the material I’ve
written for Black Pope, there’s a thread of embracing darkness—whether that’s through
trauma, flaws, or just living outside the lines. I see She’s Alive as a continuation of that, but
more extreme, unhinged, and full of contradictions.”
Black Pope has already made waves with a standout appearance at Ireland Music Week as
well as opening for Fontaines DC and the premiere of his self-directed video ‘Werewolf,
Man’ at Berlin’s Rollberg Kino. With previous support from Hot Press Magazine, Visions.de,
and Psychedelic Baby Mag, Black Pope is set to reach new heights with ‘White Smoke’,
produced by Grammy-winning producer Cian Riordan (known for his work with St. Vincent
and Lana Del Rey). Fans can expect an album that pushes the boundaries of rock, filled with
the explosive energy, mystery, and rebellion that have become Black Pope’s trademarks.
‘White Smoke’ will be available to stream on all major platforms from Friday 18th October.
