ELUVEITIE, LACUNA COIL, INFECTED RAIN@Kino Siska; Ljubljana - December 5th, 2019

At the beginning of the festive December time, we attended a great concert in our capital Ljubljana, homeland Slovenia. In Kino Šiška - a center of an urbane culture where they host a lot of amazing events came an evening that we definitely couldn't miss.

The openers of the night were Moldavian band Infected Rain who is known for infusion of various modern metal styles that are blended in their signature sound with high-pitched screams to death growling, clean singing of their vocalist Elena Cataraga aka Lena Scissorhands. The band erected in 2008 when they dedicated their first performance on stage to Slayer. Even though they are the youngest band of the night they have kept themselves busy and released four albums, one EP and one demo. In 2018 with the release of their new music video for the single Serendipity they evolved into some heavier stuff. After their long independence as a band, after 10 years in spirit of Valentine's day, they announced they have signed a record deal with the Austrian label Napalm Records.

We saw them for the fifth time and they never disappoint. They opened the show with their old one "Mold". Next was powerfull "Passerbye", their first single from the new record "Endorphin". The third one was one of their best songs written "Orphan Soul" from their previous album "86". The next ones were all new ones, "Lure", "Black Gold" and "The Earth Mantra". For conclusion, they played old one "Sweet, Sweet Lies".  The band is looking really tight, energetic and more powerful than ever. Lena is for sure one of the most charismatic frontwomen in metal music today.

Setlist:

Mold
Passerby
Orphan Soul
Lure
Black Gold
The Earth Mantra
Sweet, Sweet Lies

Second on the stage were Italian gothic metal band Lacuna Coil whose beginnings reach way back to 1994 and are known for their mid-tempo songs combined with male and female vocals that unite into melodic, heavy down-tuned style. They have already released nine studio albums and in the last decade won three awards that have just confirmed their amazing talents. Between many achievements, they have published their first book “Nothing Stands in Our Way” where you can read more about their history, personal views and see more photos from the band history.

They opened the show with hit single "Blood, Tears, Dust". We also heard the new ones such as "Reckless", "Layers of Time" and "Sword of Anger". We could also "Enjoy the Silence" when they played Depeche Mode cover. Of course, their setlist included "Heaven's a Lie" and the final "Nothing Stands in Our Way". Lacuna Coil proved once more that they perfectly combine female/male vocals with nu-metal/goth elements and step aside from other similar bands.

Layers of Time
Enjoy the Silence (Depeche Mode cover)

The last one was Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie. They infuse traditional Celtic folk melodies with melodic death metal and to make their sounds even more unique they use traditional folk instruments such as fiddles, tin whistles, flutes, bagpipes, and hurdy-gurdies. The lyrics are English, mixture and are often in a reconstructed form of the extinct ancient language Gaulish from which they also got their name that translates into "The Helvetian". From their beginnings in 2002 when Chrigel Glanzmann formed the band came to many changes of a band setup. Through the years they made eight albums and the latest Ategnatoswas was released on the 5th of April this year. It is their longest studio album and they amazed us with some songs that were heavier compared to their previous albums.

We saw them for the first time and for sure not the last! We could enjoy every second of their show. Amazing clean vocal range from Fabienne Erni is breathtaking! Frontman Chrigel Glanzmann is an outstanding musician with his skills playing mandola, whistles, pipes, gaita, acoustic guitar, bodhrán, and harp. If we can compare to similar acts that we saw before in the past the first band that comes in mind are Germans, In Extremo. Just simply amazing performance from the whole band! We are looking forward to see them live again!
